March 10, 1HL8, and went to California where they lived until he was called away by (lie mes senger of deth. He leaves his wife and hia parents and brothers and sin ters beside many warm friends to mourn his early death. He was a member of tho Knights of Pythias and the members of that order took part in tho burial services. Monday was one of (he quietest days we have hod in Eagle Point for some time as it looked a:.i tho every body was slaying at V.omo getting ready to go to tho'vnrfouu voting places to exercise their prerogative as loyal citizens of c.ir great, nation, but thero were a fe of tho country people came in; hut what few did come simply drove, thru or If they stopped at all e.tt; ;ded to what busi ness they had to and departed. J. P. MeCabe, one of our prosper ous farmers and orchardists went to Medford and returned on i!ie llamish Jitney Monday evening, and spent the nifht at the Sunnyside. Jack O'Con nor of Phoenix also spent Monday niuht with us. Our election Tuesday passed off very quietly and there seemed to bo but very little Interest manifest ex cept it might bo that there wore some of tho ladles who did a little electioneering for Mr. Purdln fdV county judge, but it seemed that about everybody had their minds made up and votort as they pleased, alt ho before tho election tho mall boxes wero pretty well filled with let ters and circulars r.nlieiting votes. Of course before this goea to press the country will know the result of the election, unless it would be In our town election, and that was consid ered of so little importance that there was no ticket brought out. So the voters had to wrlto In the names of the ones they wanted. There wore about twenty or porhaps twenty-five votes cast for mayor and J. M. Nich ols, our present mayor, received twelve votew und the other candidates received fro.n ono to three votes, most, of them ono, r-nd for council men J. F. ltrown. L. Childreth, Win! Von dor Mullen, Dr. Holt, Itog. Ashnole and James Cordon, unless It was In one ca;;e, that of Win. lirown. On tho tali v ;heet lie is reported to have received six votes In one place and two in another, making eight altogether, and that would make him one ahead ol Or. Holt, who received seven votes. Tho great trouble seems to le that no ono wants to be both ered with the ofiite-i and It is a ques tion whether those elected will qualify. J. V. Mcintyie was re-elected re corder and Roy Ashpolc was re-elected treasurer. H seems that the promoters of the incorporation have riu'eeded In get ting what tjiey wauled a bonded in debtedness of $10,000 on tin; town, increasing our Ukxca v.o far $H a y:ar on the thousand dollars and succeed ing In getting a cou le of streets fix ed and now if they could would be glnd to let go but can't. J. H. Trinity of Trail (Elk creek), spent the night with us. Tuesday night he came out for a load of sup plies.
