"The day is past when a superintendent should be employed for clerical and mere office work In a city school system," raid .Superintendent Davenport Tues day. Of this sum $25,000 was sub scribed yesterday voluntarily and thru the efforts of 60 solicitors, men and women, who started lo work -Monday forenoon. , Tho $2f.,000 subscribed Monday, the Tlrst working day of the cam paign, is $.1,000 ahead of the amount raised the first day of the previous liberty loan campaign. The other $.13,000i so far subscribed all came from voluntary subscriptions last week.
