Military training will be a part of tile course at the Medford high school next year. This move was decided on by tile school board'" at n Seciul meeting lust niglit when Melviu Kll cslnd, who tins been acting as man ual training instructor for the past month, wus hired ns the roguiur in structor in muniiul Irainin nnd mili tary training for the next school year. The military training course will be elective, but it is expected that every boy student of the school will gladly enroll for it next fall. Credits will be allowed to those tak ing this course, and besides the mili tary knowledge to be gained there will be a. big benefit from the physi cal exercises incidental thereto. The military training course is de signed by the school board to in a way take the place of football now that because of the war there are no big students in the school,1 The board contemplates leasing the large hall in the natntorium for the year for use in connection with the military training and the general physical activities of the schools. Mr. Kllestad is -well qualified to conduct tho course in military train ing as he has had five years military training, and Jeuves Sunday for the presidio nt San Francisco to lake the month's officers' . training course which w ill be attended by many other O. A. C. students nnd graduates. The board last night also began the preparation, of the annual school budget which will be voted on nt the coming school election, June 17. Two new members of the board will be elected at that time as the elective term of Mr. Palmer will expire this year, as will also the term of W.' A. I'olger, who wus nppoiuted to fill a vueanoy on the board. It is under stood that Mr. Folger will not be a candidate for election, and that Pres ident Palmer is as yet undecided whether to become a candidate for reelection. .
