"The spirit shown at the admiral ty," Secretary Daniels said, "has been one of perfect opennoss and frank ness and co-operation. Our officers have had access to every bit of In formation admiralty officials have had in relation to submarine warfare. They have opened every door to Ad miral Sims and his associates." Mr. Daniels statement was prompt- - cd by -published reports that British inventions for combatting submarines bad been withhold. On the contrary he said, every devlco of which tho British navy had knowledge had been fully explninod to tho American off! ccrs. They included some things of which the American experts had no knowledge at tho outbreak of war. Correspondingly tho American ex ports gave freely to tho ltritish all the plans they had evolved for anti-submarine warfare. Both navies had worked out depth (bombs as a weapon against subma rines. The British had a supply avail able and these have 'been used by American destroyors, Jlr. Daniels said. Tho American bomb, however. is an improvement in some respects over tho British and is now used by both navlos. Reports of lack of co-operation he- tweon tho two services, Secretary Daniels thot, arose from an incident early In tho war when a British man ufacturer of a patented device want ed by tho American navy, asked what was regarded as an exorbitant price SEATTLE HUNTS FOR WOMAN SLUGGER SKATTLK, Oct. In or der to mako their production as realistic as possible, tho authors called in Mr. Burns as collaborator mid in producing tho picture- version Director Jtalph W. Into also sought the famous detect Ivo's aid. The story of "The Argylo Case" is ono that Is certain to hold tho inter est ojf the most hardened picture pa tron. It begins with the mystery as to tho violent death of John Argylo, an eccentric millionaire. Tho trail leads into tho don of tho cleverest gang of counterfeiters in tho coun try and in tho course of his efforts to prove tho innocence of one of the defendeants, Kayton falls in love with her. The La Scnln company gave us Hiel's Krent masterpiece nt tile Page last nuilit in an artistic and finished manner. ' There were two in the cast n lit t lo ilisappniutiiiL', but the Carmen and Don Jose, together with Hie gen eral ensemble, more than made up any deficiency. Kstcr l''erriliini"s Carmen was a work of art. It was a finished performance from her en trance id the first act to her tragic death scene nt the close of the opera. Her interpretation of the character Mis strikingly free from any sug gest iveness which so often mars tills part. In facl, she is one or the few prima donnas Ihat has caught the in spiration of tile composer and seems to know exactly what Hir.ct intended his Carmen to he. Feri'iliini is u beautiful woman who possesses all the magnetism and fire of the native Italian, and she looks every inch n Carmen. She certainly made good the reputation that pre ceded her, of being one of the great est Carmcns now on the opcintiv stage. She is well supported by Don Jose, which was sum.' by Giu seppe (laudcnzi. Mr. Gaudonzi show ed a few little mannerism in the first part of the opera, but in the third and fourth acts he convinced us that we were listening to a real tenor, and one that could act. His rendition of the "l''lowcv Scmg" in (he second act was a very nrlislic piece of work. I His fourth net was exceptionally well I handled. He portrayed the character oi inc iiown-anci-out. lover in a mas terly fashion, 'nnd in some of his drmmitie scenes he rose to (lie degree of magnificence, 'faking his per formance as a whole, it. was splendid. We have not space to give (he di rector, (iuerricri, and his orchestra Hie praise they deserve. They were eenlaiiily a great, revolution in the interpretation, of the masterpiece Carmen.
