Perl, on complaint entered by City Water Suerintendent Arn spiger, nppenred before Police Judse Taylor todiiy unci entered a plea of not guilty to permitting water to run thru an open hose. His hearing was set for 10 n. m. Saturday. Mr. Perl is indiimunt over his arrest nnd de clares he will po to jail before he pays a fine. SutM'rintendent Arn spiirer is just as deteimined in press intr Hie charge. Perl says he was ir rigating with a gunny sack over the end of the hose. Phoenix, Talent, (Vn tral Point and other towns in the county. Sixty-five men in all are workin on the fires in the Prospect district. twenty of whom were sent up to day. Half of the 20 are to work un der the siiK-rvision of Forest Suiier- visor Kriekson, and the other half are helping the Jackson County Fire Patrol association force. The Wood ruff Meadows lire in the Prospect district is under control but a numlier of smaller fires in that section need attention. A new fire which started yester day in the Cougar creek section aloni: the liijr Applegate river above the mouth of Steamboat creek by last night had burned over 50 acres. Five men were rushed to the scene of the fire last evening. A bad fire exists nt the head of Anderson creek, about 8 miles north west of Talent. This fire, the smoke of which was plainly diseernable from the streets of the city yesterday was under control, but in the after noon jumped the fire lines. Thirty men were at work on the fire all last night, and it was thot it would be under control by this afternoon. This fire up to last night' had burned over 200 acres.
