Follow ing Is the proclamation: "Whereas, no agency, aside from the school, has done more for the development of Christian character, manly Integrity and physical well being among our boys and young men than the Young Men's Christian as sociation, and "Whereas, the association In this period of war-time stress faces unex ampled opportunities for develop ment and patriotic service, and "Whereas, It is urgently desirable that the work which the Young Men's Christian association Is doing, and can do, for our soldiers In the field, receive the fullest possible recogni tion and assistance, Now, therefore, I, James Withy combe, governor of Oregon, do here by proclaim Sunday, May 6th, 1917, as Oregon Y. sr. A. day, and I ask t at the ministers of the state on that day make a special mention of the association needs with a view to arousing widespread public interest and support for the practical and praiseworthy operations of this splendid organization among the young men who have gone forth from their homes to render service to their country. Fielder last Saturday and lunched at the top, returning in the afternoon. Miss Isavel Martin took her pupils for a picnic in the hills Saturday. Miss Martin Is absent from school this week suffering with some disorder of the eyes. Guernsey returned lo Med ford Saturday after a visit with her sister, Mrs. George Martin. A recruiting officer visited Rogue River the first of the week and Inter ested a number of young men In army service. Some of the young mtn are waiting till the close of school before ROGUE RIVER eavlng, and others until their season's crops are harvested. Charlie Huchen, however, left Tuesday evening for Vancouver. N C Marls, district organlzor from the Oregon Agricultural College, spent Monday In Kogue River. He addressed the school In the forenoon on Food Preparedness, and the citi zens at the library In the afternoon on utilizing vacant lots for raising food stuffs. At the afternoon meet lug a committee was appointed to in vestigate the possibilities of idle Innd in this vicinity with Mr. F. W. Clark as chairman. This committee, con sisting of Mrs. E. Fowler, Mrs. A. K. Earhart, Messrs. Wilson, Gorham, Harding, Mathls and Harrison met at the Odd Fellows hall Monday ev ening and organized to carry on this work. There were a few who fin- lied out their applications for loans but the meeting seemed to be more for the purpose of perfecting the or ganization thun to finish up the ap plications. There is quito a number who aro applying to the association for money to improve nnd stock up their places, thnt are not in such close financial strain ns to ho forced to borrow money to pay Old debts; some want to stock up with dairy cows, while others want to fence more land and a few tuko advuntago of the low rate of interest to pay off the old 8 or 10 per cent mortgage. The federal loan association pro poses to lend on long time from 5 to 20 years, and have easy poymcnts made every year with the privilege of paying off both principal and in terest at any regular stated time.
