Mr. and Mrs. Charles lloldridgc motored to Modford Thursday after noon. Misses Lucia King, Helen Ailam son, Maud Rice, Luclle lloldridge, Mabel Kerby, accompanied by their teacher, Miss Currin, spent Wednes day In Ashland, attending while there tho demonstration In canning mndo by tho representative of the Oregon Agricultural College. The Epwortli League has now paid off the last of their indebtedness on the piano and are very proud ot their achievement. The Ladies Aid of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Bow man Thursday afternoon. Twenty one were present. Five new members were added to the society. After de votional exercises and the business of tho society was attended to tho rest of tho afternoon was spent In sewing and social Intercourse. At 4 o'clock a delicious luncheon was served, Mrs. H. R. King Mrs. OrthuysA and Mrs. Bowman acting as hostesses. Mr. Bowman accommodatingly took the ladies out and back again to town in his car. Rumors are afloat that Lawrence Crawford and Belle French were mar ried Wednesday evening. If the ru mor be true the young couple have all Talent's beat wishes for a happy and prosperous future. Mrs. Vognll was an Ashland visitor Wednesday afternoon. The service at the Christian church last Thursday evening was very In structive. Louis Purvis, who was accidentally electrocuted at Stockton, Calif., on Sunday, was buried in the Wagner creek cemotery Saturday afternoon. A strong plea was made by Mr, Spencer at the parent-teachors meet ing last week for a general cleaning up of the town, especially all back door yards, beforo the field meet. This is a very good thing, not alone to show the visiting public that we are a sanitary town, but also for the good health of the people of Talent. Ed Lemming left Thursday for the Sterling mines above Jacksonville to be gone three months. Charles Lacy came in Saturday from the Wagner creek sawmill and spent Sunday with his family. We are glad to learn that little Claire Coleman Is on the road to re covery. Services were conducted last Sun day at tho Methodist church by Mr. B. Parounaglan, Sunday school mis sionary for Oregon in the absence of Rev. Mr. C. Reed, who Is In Califor nia on a business trip. C. A. AN ORDINANCE licensing and re quiring a bond of motor bus drivers and regulating the operating of motor busses and licensing auto delivery cars and auto trucks hnuling for hire; and providing a penalty for violation of this ordinance. THE CITY OK MKDFORD DOTH ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The term "motor bus" shall mean and include any motor ve hicle engaged in the business of carry ing passengers for hire, providing however, that railroad cars or street cars and hotel busses shall not he con sidered motor busses within the meaning of this ordinance. Section 2. it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor bus for hire on any street withjn the City of Mod ford, Oregon, whotner the route thereof is wholly within or partly within and partly without the limits 'of the City of Medford, without first furnishing a bond and obtaining a li cense therefor undor the provisions of this ordinnnce, provided that on spe cial occasions If the regular motor busses are unable to properly handle tho crowds, the city council may In Its discretion Issue special permits to run motor busses and charge fo rsald per mits a fee of not less than One Dollar and not more than Five Dollars per day for each motor bus. Section 3. Every person desiring to engage in the business of operating a motor bus within the City of Med ford for hire, shall before engaging in said business, make written applica tion to tho common council of the City of Medford for a license authorizing him to engngo in such business. Said application shall bo accompanied by a bond in tho sum of $250.00 with one or more sufficient sureties condi tioned that said motor bus driver will not violate any ordinnnce of the City of Medford, Oregon, regulating the operation of motor vehicles upon the streets of said city, and that ho will pay all loss or damage that may result to any norsnn or property from tlio careless or negligent operation or de fective construction or condition of said motor bus, or which may arise or result from any violation of any ordi nance of the City of Medford. 8uch bond shall be approved as to Its form by tho city attorney and shall be ap proved as to tho qualifications or me surety or surelius by the common council. Tho common council shall be the Judge of tlio fitness of the ap plicant to engage In said business and may grunt or refuse such IP-ense. Tho common council may for good cause shown and after giving the li censee an opportunity to be heard, revoke any license issued under the provisions of this ordinance. Section 4. All license fees shall be for Iho calendar year nnd shall be payable In advance Tor tho year for which Issued. All drivers of motor busses shall bo licensed and shall comply strictly with the state laws In refer ence to the operating "of motor ve- I hides between two towns shall run on schedule time and no schedule shall be within ten minutes of a competing line, nnd said time schedule shall be posted In a conspicuous place within said motor bus. Kach motor bus shall have posted in a conniiiiious place within said cur u sc hedule or prices and any violation of this schedule of nrlrcs shall subject the owner of said Liar to a revocation of his license. Section (i. I'pon being granted Urease bv the council. Iho licensee shall Immediately pay to the city treasurer his license (e nnd recolve bis receipt therefor. I'pon presenia tion to the city recorder of the city treasurer's receipt for such license fee, the city recorder shall issue a license in accordance with the terms of such receipt and order of the coun cil, and shall also furnish a license plate for each motor bus which must be placed and kept thereon. Section 7. The chassis, wheels, brakes and steering gear of all motor busses operated In tho City of Medford shall be kept In a safe condition. And it shall be unlawful for any person to accept for transportation or to trans port any person In any motor bus the chnssls,- wheels, brakes or steering gear of which are in an unsafe condi tion or transport any person In a mo tor bus containing any known' me chnnlral defect. All motor busseB must be kept in a clean and sanitary condition. No motor bus shall carry more than two passengers in excess of their seating capacity and nil pas sengers must be carried Inside the car. Section 8. It shall be unlawful ror any porson under tho ago of eighteen years to operate any motor bus within the City of Medford. ' Section 9. All auto delivery cars and auto trucks hauling for hire shall pay a yearly license as follows, to wlt: Cars or truckB with a capacity of one ton nnd under, the sum of $10.00 per year; carB or trucks with a capacity of from one ton (0 2 tons, tho sum of $15.00; cars or trucks with a capacity of over 2 V4 tons, tho sum of $25; all said license fees shall be for the calendar year ana shall be payable in advance for the vcar In which issued. Section 10. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordi nance or iinon conviction tnereor in tho city coifrt, shall be punished by a fine of not less than $10.00 nor more than $50.00. or by imprisonment in the city jnll for a period not to exceed r, ilnvs or bv both such fine and im prisonment, or upon pleading guilty to or upon conviction of a second of fense the license, of tho offender shall bo revoked and ho may be debiyned by order of tho city council trom driv ing any motor bus in tno uuy oi mow fm-ci rnr n nerioci or one year.
