Jan. :..- live democratic leaders of tlie senate three of them members of the. foreign relations committee had a long con feree wilb f'K-:ldnl Wll:.u at the TODAY'S MARKETS f Whito house last night. Afterward all of them refused flatly to talk. in mo conrerence wero cnnirnian Stono and Senators Poiucreuo and Saulsbury of the foreign relations committee and Senators Walsh andj Hoke Smith. Tlie president is much interested lu the efforts of Senator Cummins and other republicans to force an open debate on his peace ad dress and hi some quarters, it was be lieved that it was in this connection that the senators were called to tho Whito House. It la understood the subject was discussed only generally and that no attempt was made to atjree'upon any plan of action. The legislative program was talked over and the president is said to have urged tho Importance of passing water , power legislation beforo the cud of tho session. , There hare been suggestions that, In order to prevent Interference with legislation by dally discussions of the Cummin6 resolutions, which would set aside next week for debate, the administration might favor either fixing a limited time for the debate now, or an agreement to postpone It until the senate holds its extra ses sion after the fourth of March. Lnst Saturday nijiht Henry Trusty, Joe Moomaw and Miss Claire Zim merman gave a. social dance, as Miss Claire said, just something to brenk the monotony, and it proved to be o success both financially and socially, for those who. participated ''chipped in" and nut do up enough to pay the rent of ihci.pcra house and the mu sic, mid I heard one young man re mark that there wore but two or three who showed signs of - hoVins been drinking. There was a number of tho 3'ounjr men who attended the dance canio into the Sunnyside about 1 a. m. Sunday, took breakfast and the most of them remained for din ner, onion-; whom were Lyle l'lirdiu of Medford, who remained until Mon day morning; the two Haley brothers, Ed Cinjrcnde, Harry Lewis, and Inter his brother Will; Orville Childreth, Al Clements and Mr. Itetcr of Jack sonvillc. W . H. McLc-od, our enterprising merchant, who has a store near the upper nlccl bridge on nnfrue river, spent Saturday night with us on his way home wilh a load of supplies for his store. Amuug-. the callers for dinner Sun day beside those already mentioned were George von dcr H'cllcn, one of our hardware merchants; Airs. Wm. I'errv nnd daughter. Miss Tstelln Hells, and stepdaughter. Miss Fay Perry, Joe Mooniuw, Air. and Mrs. 11, K. Honey and Mrs. Allien Smith of Medford and Air. Sitzlcr. Last Saturduy while Will Ilolman of Climax and Kay Harnish were leeilmg their cattle tlie team ran iwny, and I lie first jump they made threw liuv Harnish off the rear end ot the wagon and knocked him sense less, mid sooner than il takes mo to write, the account of Ihe accident, the team ran over a precipice about twelve feet high, turuim,' the wugou over ami Innduu; tlie wagon bed on Mr. Ilolman, breaking his leg just above the knee, and otherwise bruis ing him very badly. That night Dr. Holt was called, reaching there about midnight. The doctor went as far as be could with his auto and linn pro cured a rig and went on up. The place is up in the mountains nn An telope creek. He set the broken bone as best lie could witii the facilities he had and the next dav brought, him out to the Sunnyside, when Dr. Tluiver was called from Alcdford, reaching here about 4 p. m. The two doctors then went to work to reduce the I'rncture and make Mr. H. as com fortable as possible. While this was going on here, Pete Stowell and wife were wailing at Pete's brother-in- law, John Smith's, with his stepson. about 10 years old, to have Dr. Doll come and reduce a fractured wrist for the boy. It appears that he was climbing on a fence and fell off, mid (bus had his wrist broken. I'.ut the doctor fixed him up all right so that his parents took him home the next moriiiny. That makes two broken legs and n broken wrist that Dr. Holt has hnd to set in about a week, John Allen of Derbv. Air. Hnlmnn and the Stowell liov. It looks as though someone was unfortunate, to say the least. Air. and Airs. R. B. Jlcsser of Hast ings, Alirh., und Frederick Heath ami his mother motored out Monday and went as tar as ftrownshnro.
