Tho Unit ed States army transport Sumner, hound from Colon to this port with army officers, troops and civilian Passengers, is hard aground on the ' New Jersey coast off Bnrnegat. The coast guard cutters Seneca and Mo liawk under forced draught are rush ing to tho relief of the transport, Vhlch sent out calls for help after 1 she struck late last night in a fog. Tho tnrnsport's normal complement is 11 officers and a crew of 118, but sho has boon carrying many soldiers stationed at Panama, to and from the Isthmus. Tho .- last time sho reached this port she carried 195 pas- 'sengers. ' A wire less dispatch received hero 'from the Sumner this morning stated that the vessel is boglnning to pound with the rising tide.
