X-PKKSID13NT TFV sforcs Prcsidciii Wilson on -' flic ground tlmt the lattcr's .Mcxicjin policy is "neither watchful nor waiting." Ex-President liooscvell misses no opportunity to de nounce President Wilson's foreign policy in toto.' It is time that some good-sized, courageous, justice-loving audience hissed these ex-presidents off the stage when they make such attacks. Tai't, as president, gave us a Mexican policy that got nowhere, settled nothing and he handed our relation with Mexico over to Woodrow Wilson in the rankest sort of condition. He should have kept his mouth tightly shut about Mexico from the date that he was turned out pf office, by a country unanimous, save as to LTtah and Vermont. As presidentPoosevelt's most im portant action toward foreign nations was bis "taking" of I'm .. i i1 It it j-anaiiia, an aci 01 sucn (iiimous cnaraetcr.tnat 11 is ques tionable whether we will not have to make mi abject apol ogy and pay $25,000,000 in order to ease tho national con science and conserve the national reputation for common honesty. Put even if the foreign )olicies of these two men, both tried as president and both later repudiated, had been above criticism, the fact remains that they offer no im provement on policies which they so vigorously condemn. They do not say what they would do were they in Presi dent Wilson's place. J laving been president, they assume the capacity of experts, bill declare no remedies for the rllegcd evils. Any fool can make a kick. The expert who kicks is, in justice and reason, bound at ieast to suggest a remedy. Jf the public is to draw its own conclusion as lo what Taft or Roosevelt would do if president at this time, it would be only logical to conclude that Taft's Mexican policy would sironglv resemble Wilson's and Ihat Roosevelt would "take" Mexico, (lermany. Austria and Turkey. The Taft -Roosevelt criticisms of Wilson's foreign pol icies are purely poppycock, senseless au1 cowardly, and it is about time thai some public audience recognized them UK such. There will be plenty of time, afler the sale of the bonds ban been dehuitely arranged, to provide an election and other necessary details. It is also the part of wisdom to have the legal procedures satisfactory to the bond-buyer, and hence avoid the delays and expense of litigation.
