As It Is. there are probably almost a many farmers In thl country who. are suffering from too much as frfmi too llttlo credit. Ofthese rules ,thq three most liti portant are: ' . 'J 1. Provision should bo mado In Ioiir time loans for the gradual re duction of tho principal. The first rule Is, of courw, the key to tho wise uso of credit. 11c twoeu borrowing money to spend on one's self and borrowing money to buy equipment of soma sort with. all the difference between folly and all tho difference between follw nnd i foresight, extravagance and thrift. If tho monoy Is borrowed for a wise purpose It will produce enough to pay back principal mid interest nnd leave a fair margin of profit for the borrower Into th? bargain. If it Is borrowed for a foolish purpose it will produce nothing nnd consequently there will be. nothing with which to repay the loan. From this point of view It matters comimratlvely little whether tho Interest bo high or low. It Is the payment of the principal that Is the chief difficulty. Utiles '2 and 3 deal with the most satisfactory ways of repayment. Un derneath them both Is tho same prin ciple: Tho loan must bo repaid with tho money It eearns itself. For ex ample. Somo seasons they are much moro destructive to these crops than others, owing to various causes, such as the weather conditions or the presence or absence of the various parasites and predaceous enemies, which sometimes keep them reduced to a minimum. The green caterpillars, or cabbago worms, found on cabbage and allied plants, aro too well known to need any description. They develop Into the common white, gray or orange butterflies with small dark spots on their wings. They are seen frequent ly during the summer flying about the garden and clover and alfalfa fields. The butterflies lay the eggs on the cabbsco. which hatch Into tho ! caterpillars. I The state experiment station at Pullman advises that tho best method j of controlling these wormg is to spray ( th nlanta before thor are half crown I with arsenate of lead and soap, pre pared as follews: Arsenate of lead (pafcto), three ounces; soap, onohalf bar; water, four gallons. Borrowing Money machine that will last ten years, the machine must earn enough In that time to pay for Itself or It never will. The loan, therefore, should bo en tirely repaid before the ten yenra are up or tho farmer will lose money on the transaction, paying out Inter est for no benefit In return. On tho other hand, If too earl date Is set for repajment, the machine will not have had sufficient oppor- tunlty.to make the requisite money and thi borrower may l.ave dlfflcul- J'ln raising It olsowhere. Rulo a provides for some, form of amortl UaMon. the system by which tho prln- eipai is re pa in m iiiMiiiiiueiu mi mm tile amount of the loan Is contln unity diminishing and In consequence tho Interest charges also. Such a system Is quite feasible When the loan Is really productive, when It returns to the borrower definite revenue eaech jear. Tables show ing tho payments required to pay periods of time are appended to the vff principal and Interest In vnr.vlng bulletin and are recommended to the xerlous consideration of everyone who contemplates borrowing money The bulletin also advises the farmer to secure the lowest possible Inter est. At tlrst sight this seems too obvious to be worth mentioning, of course, tho interest should no as small as possible. Kvorybody knows that except the lender. Put If the other rules are observed, If the bor rower manages his financial affairs soundly, he will bo surprised to rind how much easier It Is to obtain fav orable terms. The right kind of len der dues not want to foreclose inert gageg; he wants hi monoy back with n fair profit, like any other merchant. For money that Is borrow ed wisely, for money that Is sure to bo repaid, he ehnrges low Interest. This, In fact.
