I "I'"- - 'V V JW?' .' tho mayoralty, I wish to nay that, aa wo havo every niuurancu of a most prosperous year, lot un guard BRalnst errors In public affairs. Xow, as to tlio public market, I want to nay that 1 am, and alwaya have been, n f. Irons advocato of tho p'lbll market. I waa arnonic tlio flrxt of llio council to favor and pro moto It. I font that the succors of our market la duo as much to my efofrts as any other member of tho roiincll. I shall, If elected, use every honorable effort to mako It a continued success, as I realise the Kreat benefit It Is to both producer and consumer. Now, as to the saloons. So long as the stato and the city llceuso 'hem to do business, they are entitled to do so; hut I nin a strong advocate of law enforcement, as tho laws exist, and when tho laws are wrong, wo havo'a remedy, It's up to tho ptiMlc. I firmly bclluvo In development and procross, but not to tho extent of reckless oxtravacance. Wo must guard against this recklcasness, but not to the extent of retraction. I am strictly opposed to any special privileges as to locations, porsons or corporations, but adhere rluldly to the best Interests of tlio public. I belluvo that tho samu considera tion Is duo to the ladles as to tho men, In all our public affairs, (l'ald Advt.) W. W. Ivlfert Tor tho Information of tho voters of Medford, I tako tills method of announcing my position on tho prin cipal quentlous of Interest to tho pcoplo of our city. If oloctoit, my time and scrvlcos will always bo available to tho pub lic and suggestions and criticisms will at all times receive most caro-ful-couildoratlon. When evor It Is apparent that tho majority of our citizens aro united la opinion oppo ulto to my Individual vluws, I will yield to tho majority, recardlcas of my porsonal opinions. Our public market should bo en couraged and developed along such lines as will result In tho greatest ad vantage to tho community. Our laws regarding sanitary con ditions should bo actively enforced, and supplemented by others If tho existing ordinances aro Inadoquato. My experiences has convinced mo that tho suggestions offcrod from ttmo to tlmo by tho women of tho community, oven bctom ino rlgnt of suffrago was extended to thorn, havo always been of value, and should ro colvo tho utmost consideration. Our present laws regulating tho saloons and tho aalo of liquor, and such other restrictions as tho council or pcoplo mny hereafter enact, should bo rigidly enforced, and If found Inadequate, or Insufficient, should bo amended. Our water rates should bo revised so that tho cost of malntenanco, and tho nucessary contributions to tho linking fund may bo equitably dis tributed among tho cousumors, but no surplus should bo accumulated at tho oxponso of tho rato payer. The work of tho finance commit teo and of the other principal com mittees of tho council should bo opon to suggestion and subject to criticism, and tho criticism, sugges tions, ami co-operutlon of ronresouta ttvoB of our vnrlous ctvlo bodlos should bo Invited and encouraged In such work, It elected I plodgo myaolt to uuo my utmost endeavor to carry out tho Ideas outlined abovo, and to glvo Medford nn Impartial, progressive, buslucsa administration. . , (Paid Advt.)
