Voting, national organizer of the American Federation of I.nltor, who has been In totvn for tho past two weeks, mnilo tho principal address of tho ovenlng and went over tho local situation thoroughly pointing out the necessity of union men organizing for their protection and tho undeslrabll Ity of foreign labor. George U. Hughes, president of tho carpenters' union presided and Introduced tho various speakers. Tho meeting was a great success from various standpoints but princi pally from the fact that nearly 500 persons attended and today more fully realize what union labor strives for. The Kogue river com pany represenfed itself as willing to furnish tho city with power, but held out Hint it Had a aO-yeur contract with tho Sibkiyou Power company not to invade the Ashland field. It was suggested that a friendly Miit be started to invnlidato tho contract. All went well until Saturday, when the demurrer to tho cty'b suit was filed.
