WASHINGTON, March '20. If the fanner gets more for his crops in these days of the high cost of living, he is compelled to pay more for their production, through tho liicrouscd cost of farm labor. This fact ih shown by tho department of agricul ture in a bulletin just issued by Chief Statistician Victor Olmsted. The average wages of farm labor during 1010, bused upon reports) of ngonts mid correspondents of tho de partment, witli comparisons, is given by (lie Htatistieiau us follews: The salary of a farm hum, without hoard, averaged throughout (lie Uni ted States $27.00 per month ; witli hoard it was $18.M; while the farm ers of (he far west were compelled to pay (heir hired men, without hoard $10.48', and with hoard, W4.M). During tho harvest period, the fanners paid an average of jH.82 por day, without boarding (licit help; witli board, an average of $1.JI(). In 1800, according to (he depart ment, tho average salary, per mouth, paid for hired help throughout the United States was $18.M, without board ,as compared with $27.fi() in 1010. CENTRAL POINTTO SPEND SI 25,000 Little City to the North Will Install Water and Sewer Mains and Pave Principal Streets Work to Be Started at Once. The city of Central Point la con templating extensive Improvements for tho summer, a extension to tlv water system, a sower system and paving, costing approximately $12fi, 000. Work will commence In the near future. On or about May 1st. On April 20 the city of Central Point will lot contractB for a 00,000 sower system. Thero will bo four miles of piping laid, the average cut will be eleven feet, but In placoB the cut will be twenty-three feet on tho deepest In 1'iiy system In this section. Tho contracts call for alternate bids, first on vitrified pipe, second on concrete pipe, tho selection of the kind (o bo used being left to tho council.
