Clnrcnco True Wilson, of tlip umter will bo sotlled sntisfnctor Portlnnd, rcnrcsenliiiR tho Orcuonplv to all parties concerned within a Anti-Saloon league, addressed a lnrgo nudionco in the opera house Tuesday evening. Dr. Wilson is making a canvass of Oreuon for stato wido prohibition and is n fluent talker. Ho is Bomothinc of an ano ffnaly in the way of a prohibitionist, in that ho is a strong opponent of equal Buffrace, as mny bo seen from an extract from ono of his speeches whicli appears in another column ni n paid advertisement from tho Ore poll stato association opposed to the extension of miffrngo to women. The rank and file of Oregon's women temperance workers can hardly agree with Dr. Wilson in his views on tn ntion without representation. Mrs. W. C. Evans, a former well known resident of this city, who went to Now York stato last spring to reside with relatives, writes the Herald asking that the address on her pnpor be changed from Mrs. W. C. Evans to Mrs. P. A. Richardson. All of which indicates that the worthy lady has made some New Yorker happy by bestowing on him licr heart and hand. Some of Mrs. Evans closest friends here had an inkling of a bit of romance in her life which had to do with an early love affair, nn estrangement and la ter reconciliation by correspondence. All of tho lady's friends heje will unite in best wishes for her future welfare. Mayor Lcever and Recorder Jacobs went to Medford Saturday morn ing to interview the official" of the Rogue River Electric company re garding a rate for electric current for power at tho water pumping sta tion. While no definite agreement was arrived at it is understood that the company is disposed to bo fair in tho matter and that they will either stay with the rate offered by them last spring of that an arrangement will be made for installing a meter on a basis that they give the city a cneaper service taking the year through. It is urged by some of the town officials that during the winter sen son only a small amount of watpr will be required as compared with the summer season when sprinkling and irrigation will make heavy de mands on the supply and that a sav ing can bo made by installing tho meter system. It is expected that few days E. L. Farm left yesterday for t trip north expecting to spend n few weeks visiting friends and looking after business affairs. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Price returned Monday evening from n six weoks visit in tho Mississippi vnllt. Dur ing thoir trip they visited relatives in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and Utah and also spent somo time hi California. They enjoyed the trip much but nro not sorry to be back in the Rogue River valley. A drain from Pine street into tho outlet of tho Hopkins lateral, which is now being completed, will afford a splendid sewerage for W. A. Cowley, the Whiteside brothers and W. E. Childers nud tho relief coming none too soon, as ill smelling, stagnant water has already collected along tlu line of tho drain. James Shields, who has put up u fine water tower nt his place is now piping the water into his house and barnyard, making a complete and up to date water system. This is an other instance wherein the city lost out in not extending tho water main to the lower end of Pine street. Mr. Shields has a fine well and will have abundant water for both domestic use and irrigation. Acting Governor Jay Bowerman and Judge R. R. Butler, of Condon, wore in the city for a few hours Sunday the guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Pattison. In the afternoon Mayor W. C. Leever, Hon. J. W. Merritt and J. 0.
