With the authorities of a score of Iowa cities aroused by the recent discovery on doorsteps of very young babies, packed snugly In well ventilated suit cases, tho polico of Des Moines aro working today on tho theory that tho infants have been felt by representa tives of an organization that Is reap ing a rich harvest by trafficking in babies. Following a report by a Des Moines artist, who has an International repu tation, that he bad learned something of tho unusual business, tho officers of tho Iowa Humane society today started an Independent Investigation. This man declared that while re turning to Des Moines from Chicago laBt week an apparently well edu cated and cultured woman, who was a passenger on ms tram, miormea him that sho received from $50 to $100 for every unwelcome baby for which sho (could find a homo. Ac cording to his story, sho admitted that methods of home-finding that might bo termed "unusual" some times wero employed. The humano officers have estimated that at least 58 babies bavo been disposed of by this sultcaso-doorstep method, within tho last thrco months. Thoy bavo asked tho municipal authorities to assign detectives to tho caso. Georgo Perry Hobs, who less than ono years ago catne from Toston, Mont., to rc8ido at tho homo if his daughter, Mrs. Caroline Dunn, of Talent, died suddenly at his daugh ter's homo on March 23, 1010, at tho advancod ago of 78 years, 5 months and 15 days. Mr. Ross was a native of Pennsylvania, having been born in Grsen county on August 8, 1830. In 1850 ho emigratod to Virginia, settling in Monongahela county in 1850. Moved to tho state of Iowa in 1851. In 1852 Mr. Ross moved to the state of Missouri, whore on Jan uary 1, 1853, he was united in mar riage to Miss Eliza Dye. Of this union eight children were born, thrco of whom preceded their father to tho grave. Tho five remaining children are: James Ross, Toston, Mont.; Jacob noss, Toston, Mont.; Mrs. Amanda Mongrain, Lowiston, Mont. Mrs. Carolino Dunn, Talont, Or. Mr. Ross moved to Toston, Mont., in 1803, whoro he resided until August 1, 1000, at which time ho came to livo with bis daughter. Mrs. Caroline Dunn, of Talent, where, after ho had resided but a few months, he sud denly met the silent reaper.
