P. P. I. E . Notes (From Oregon Commission Bulletin) Tbe Oregon building now boasts tbe most re m a rk ab le apple exhib it on the exposition g r o u n d s —a three box dis play of Newtown Pippins from the crops of as many years. Beside a box of the 1915 crop sta nds anoth er of the 1914 crop, and beside th a t is a third box of the 1913 crop. Except for the fact t h a t the 1914 apples are yellow, as a m a t t e r of course, th ere is little or no difference betw een these and this y e a r 's apples. The box of f r u i t picked in 1913 is a very deep yellow and is not far from decay, but these apples take h splendid polish and are not disc red it able beside the others. Hue display occupying a special position and prop- crly placarded is made by H. O. Fro- bacli, of the southern Oregon booth, and a tt r a c t s a g r e a t deal of attention. The keeping quality of Oregon apples lias been impreHsed upon visitors thor oughly during this fair, placards telling ju st how long fruit has been on display. While California e x p erts change the fruit in their exhibits every three or four weeks, O re gon’s re pre se ntatives find it unnecessary to m ake a change under 10 weeks and in many instances boxes of apples are k e p t on display four months. F ifty boxes of Spiteznhurg apple» from Aslhand. 50 from Medford, 50 from the W illam ette valley, 50 from Hood River and 50 from e a s te r n Ore gon placed on display in the Oregon building, were on November 15 given to the thousands a tt r a c t e d by’Oregon apple day. The real display of Oregon apples at this time is th a t in the Palace of H o r t iculture, this being comprised „of the 100 boxes sent for competitive pur pose». These apples come wholly from Hood River and Rogue River valleys and are the finest these famed sections can produce. More than 30 varieies are represented, and tbe display, j u s t r.ow being finished for judgment by thejjury of aw ards is beautiful beyond compare. Oregon has^a ¡ larg e r num ber of com petitive entries than "any o th e r s ta te and there is confidence th a t the jury will find t h a t Oregon has the finest fru it being shown a t the exposition. The display is set in the center of the Oregon pavilion a t the Palace of H o r t iculture, cannot be passed by the thou sands and will not be passed by any who catch even a glimpse, tor it is one of those displays that hold the a t t e n tion and bring out those sa tisfying 1 'ohs. ” Commercial Club Meeting The regular business meeting: of the Mosier Commercial Club is belt! on tbe first Monday of each month.
