A VALUABLE SUGGESTION IMPORTANT TO EVERYONE St. Louis— More than 100 persons are believed to have lost their lives in a fire that destroyed the Missouri Athletic club at Fourth and Washing ton streets, early Monday morning. O f 135 members and more than 100 guests registered at the club at the time the fire was discovered not more than 50 have been accounted for. Bodies of seven men, who lost their lives in jumping from the upper stor ies o f the burning building, were pick ed up on the pavement. The fire was discovered bursting from the windows o f the lower four stories. The blaze spread rapidly to the Boatmen's Bank. A t 2 :30 o’clock every fireman in the city was on the scene, but the blaze spread in all directions and was far beyond the control o f the firemen. The entire block bounded by Fourth street, Broadway, Washington avenue and Lucas avenue seemed to be doomed. A t 2:45 a. m. the roof of the mas sive structure, covering half a city square, caved in, carrying down with it several floors, on which it is be lieved there were more than 100 sleep ers. Every available ambulance and po lice patrol wagon in the city was called to the scene. A careful census of those who es caped from the building was taken by the police and an officer of the club and not more than 50 men were ac counted for. The Missouri Athletic club was one of the most exclusive organizations of the city. Ma chines of 50 miles an hour speed under ordinary conditions, he said, at proper latitude traveled 100 miles an hour. “ I think,” he added, “ we may safe ly say that we will see airships cross ing the Atlantic at a height o f two miles above the earth, driven by warm and comfortable aeronauts. “ The question o f sufficient oxygen for the driver ¡ h solved by the tre mendous speed itself, for the air striking the face would be condensed. As for the cold at such a height, the exhaust o f the machine furnishes a source o f heat easily applicable to keep the aviator properly warm.” It is now conceded by physclans that the kidneys should have more at tention as they control the other or gans to a remarkable degree and do a tremendous amount of work in remov ing the poisons and waste matter from the system by filtering the blood.
