LEXINGTON IS A PRETTY GOOD TOWN VOL. II LEXINGTON, OREGON, THURSDAY MAY 9, 1907 NEW 'HERD LAW FOR MORROW CO. The new herd law that goes Into effect In Morrow county,' May 25th, is the same as the Sherman county law that has been in effect the past few j years. The law Is to prevent ail stock j from running at large In any part of! the county and provides for the taking j up and Impounding of such stock by any person. Parties taking up such stock ire required, without unneces sary delay, to give notice of such tak ing up, which notice shall contain a concise description of such animals, with the marks and brands so that the owner may Identify the same, and shall also state that such stock will be sold unless redeemed, giving time and place of sale, either by delivering a copy of such notice to the owner "Tn person if residents of the county and are known to the person so taking up, M, E. Graham, Pastor. or by causing a copy of such notice to be published in a newspaper of general circulation within the county. - In case the stock so advertised is not redeemed and sale is made, the person so taking up shall submit, to three disinterested parties, the amount for damages and charges fdr so keep ing. Within ten days after making the sale a full report of the proceedings in writing, under oath, - stating the a mount of damages, costs and expenses so allowed, the description of the ani mal or animals, date of sale, to whom sold, snd for what sum, and the over plus,- if there be any After deducting the amount for damages etc, the bal ance, if any shall be deposited with the county treasurer and his receipt taken therefore, which together with the report must be filed with the county clerk. .. This law provides also, for the owner or owners upon making satis factory proof shall be entitled to a warrant on the county Treasurer for such balance, without interest, at any time vithin five years after the sale. Pointer. $5. The team prizes were awarded as follows: 8th grade team, Ruth Brown, Joe Thornberg, Lucy TWO CENT PREMIUM FOR LEXINGTON BUTTER Returns from Spokane received by W. E, Leach, Secretary of the Lex ington Creamery Co., state that Lex ington butter sold at a premium of 2 cents above the market and that it is of extra fine quality. These parties state that they can use three to four hun dred pounds per week at the advance. The butter-maker, Mr. Keefer, feels highly honored over this premium and it is evident that Lexington has one of the best factories and butter-makers in the state. Davis: High School team, Jas. Point er, Alonzo Tyler and Amanda Waid. Next week' the 8th grade class takes the 8th grade state examination.
