Krissy, as she went by, had a heart of gold and was de¿nitely a free spirit. She had a love for her home state of Colorado and was a Broncos fan. She spent most of her life in Herm- iston, Oregon, and Gall graduated from Hermiston High School in 1989. Then she had some college in Albany, Oregon, where she married Jack Christopher Gall. She had a love for business and was active in DECA and also loved accounting. She liked to cross stitch and loved to write poetry. She also liked unicorns and her little dog Lady Bug. Then after hav- ing some life struggles she moved to Seattle, Washing- ton, where she pursued her love of cooking and went to Fairstart Culinary School and became a chef. She went on to work at a bistro and then at Starbucks. The caller described smelling gun powder. SUNDAY, FEB. 28 Hermiston Fire EMS calls — 10 Hermiston Fire motor vehicle accidents — 0 12:18 p.m. — A Hermiston resident reported a strange noise coming from the attic above her water heater. On arrival, firefighters located the scratching noise from a vent pipe above the water heater. The home owner then stated she had covered a hole in the attic space the day before. Access was made into the attic space and a wood pecker was found trapped between a protective shroud and the water heater vent pipe. The bird did not appear to be injured at this time. The bird was placed in a shoe box and transported outside where it was released. The bird flew away without incident. 2:10 p.m. - Walmart Asset Protec- tion reported an uncooperative male who “under rang” items and was refusing to give his name. 2:50 p.m. - Hermiston fire responded to a slow moving grass fire on Theater Lane. The fire was Gary Ray Lovell was born October 19, 1954, at Ft. Lew- is, Washington, to parents Marvin Dale and Norma Jane (Zollman) Lovell. He died Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, at the age of 61. He was raised in Wallowa County and graduated from Wal- Lovell lowa High School in 1972. He moved to the Hermiston, Oregon, area in 1972. Gary operated his sheep shearing business all over the Northwest and even one trip to Alaska. He owned and operated the Cozy Corner Tavern in Hermiston for 20 years. On May 12, 2007, he married Carolleen Carper in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Gary served on the Uma- tilla County Fair Board, served as a livestock judge and ran the Jackpot Lamb Competition. He enjoyed ¿shing, hunting, cooking, canning, crabbing, gardening, and gol¿ng. He is survived by his wife Carolleen of Hermiston; fa- ther Marvin (Evelyn) Lovell of Umapine, Ore.; sons Tra- vis (Sarah) Lovell and Brian Lovell, both of Hermiston, Ore.; daughter Jen- nifer (Travis) Dorsey of Kentucky; broth- er Sammy Lovell of Hermiston, Ore.; sister Jackie (David) Huston of Ilwaco, Wash.; six grandchil- dren, Chance, Owen, Jade, Ajay, Ashly and Brynn; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma. Viewing for family and friends was held on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston. Antoinette ‘Toni’ DeFriez Skinner Hermiston April 25, 1966-February 20, 2016 Antoinette “Toni” DeFriez Skinner, beloved wife, moth- er, daughter, sister and friend, died February 20, 2016, in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 49 years. She was born on April 25, 1966, in Provo, Utah, to Stanley C. DeFriez and Joan Davis De- Friez. Toni is survived by her mother and her siblings; her husband Skinner Kevin M. Skinner; and their children: Wood (Jessica), Conrad, Jace and Jancee Skinner. She was pre- ceded in death by her father. Toni grew up in Heber City, Utah, but called Herm- iston, Oregon, home for over 23 years. She was the senior class president at Wasatch High School in 1984, and graduated from Utah State University in 1998 in market- ing and ¿nance. Toni ful¿lled her childhood dream by grad- uating with a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Brigham Young University (BYU Law Temple) in 1991. Then the best thing hap- pened. She met a tall skinny cowboy from a small town on a blind date. They dated for a short time and then mar- ried in the Salt Lake Temple. She was admitted to the Utah and Oregon Bar Association. Toni was in private practice in Hermiston, Ore., and was also county prosecutor for Umatilla County for many years. She was a dedicated lawyer and champion for the underdog. Through her law practice she truly did ¿ght for justice for all. She gave her all to her clients, sometimes do- ing her work pro bono just to help someone who was in desperate need. Toni was a devot- ed wife and mother, always putting her family before herself. She was a trusted friend and con¿dant always willing to bear oth- ers’ burdens. Toni was a de- voted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she faithfully ful¿lled many church callings. A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston, Oregon. After selling the business, Gil did the primary work in building his new home in Lew- iston, Idaho. Gil re- tired from the Spo- kane, Washington, Sheet Metal Workers Union and returned to Oregon. He had lived in Milton-Freewater and Pendleton for the last 20 years. Gil especially enjoyed outdoor activities, ¿shing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed ¿ne cars, owning approximately 20 Stude- baker automobiles, and was instrumental in starting the Spokane chapter on the Studebaker Club. Gil was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. He is survived by his sons and their wives Fred Sheely (Arlene), Uma- tilla, Ore., and Craig Sheely (Karen), Florence, Ore.; brother Don Sheely (Caron), Seattle, Wash.; sis- ters Dorothy Bahr (Walt), Fairmont, Minn., Grace Siebrass (Hersh), Mankato, Minn., and Ilene Callstrom, Lenexa, Kan.; and numer- ous nieces and nephews. He died on February 20, 2016, in Herm- iston, Oregon, at the age of 94 years. Gil attended Sheely school in Fairmont, Minn., and then joined the CCC and was stationed in two different camps in the woods of northern Min- nesota near Ely. When Gil was 17 and 18 he went, in his words, “bumming around,” mostly by riding freight trains and hitchhik- ing. He ¿rst traveled the east coast and then traveled the west coast, working dif- ferent jobs along the way to ¿nance his travels in- cluding in a circus. While visiting the eastern states, he was fortunate enough to see the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. In 1941, Gil enlisted in the Navy for 6 years, serving as an aviation metalsmith. After WWII started, Gil repaired and maintained Navy planes. At his duty station at Cor- pus Christi, Texas Naval Air Station, Gil married Prudence “Prudy” Kiel in 1943. During the war, Gil was also stationed at Nor- folk, Va., Florida, and the British colony of Trinidad. After the war, Gil and his wife moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, where they had two sons, Fred and Craig.
