(Chaplain) Malcolm Bal linger of the McCaw hospital in Walla Walla spent Saturday and Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Felthouse. Holiday guests at the W. H Bowman home were two sons, Pfc. Allen Bowman of Camp Roberts. Calif., and Vernon Bowman, F 2/c, from Camp Farragut. The regular meeting of the Umatilla Project Farm Bureau will be Friday evening, January 12, at the Columbia club house. The events of the evening will in clude two speakers and the usual pot-luck dinner at 7:30 p. m. Mrs. A. E. McFarland of Board man left this week for San Anton io. Texas, for a national meeting of the R.E.A. as a member of the resolution committee of Region No. 9 of the national association She will also act as delegate for the local association. Mrs. Monroe Gaskill of near San Francisco. Calif., and Mrs. Cecil Colpitts of Bellingham. Wash., ar rived this week to visit at the home of Mrs. Nora Colpitts. The latter plans to dispose of her be longings here and move to San Francisco with her daughter, Mrs Gaskill, for the winter months and possibly longer. News was recent ly received that Sgt. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Mo wan an- nounce the arrival of a baby girl weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces born Friday at the Hermiston General hospital. Mrs. Victoria Churchman trans ferred Saturday from St. Vincent’s hospital to the Hermiston Gener al hospital. Dr. J. P. Stewart, eyesight spec ialist of Pendleton, will be at tho Hermiston Hotel on Wednesday. January 17, between the hours of 10 a. m. and 5:00 p. m. 22-lq F. M. Meyers, elderly resident of the Butter Creek district who suf- fered a heart attack at the Farm Bureau mill Wednesday noon, is resting easy in St. Anthony’s hos- pital in Pendleton where he was taken by ambulance. Raymond Blahm, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Blahm of Hermiston arrived home Saturday for a 30- day furlough. Raymond is in the Infantry and has spent the past 32 months in the South Pacific. E. M. Ayers, pastor of the Ord- nance Mission announces Sunday School next Sunday at 11:00 a. m. with preaching service at 12:00. Ben Franklin is superintendent of the school. He invites all the peo- pie of Ordnance to attend. Dean Scott. Seaman 2nd Class. arrived home this week following four months spent in training at Camp Farragut. Dean, who was a member of a championship basket- ball team at Farragut, broke a bone in his foot in the last game of the series and was forced to spend some time in a hospital. Dean is visiting his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Loren T. Scott at Ordnance, and his many friends in Hermiston Lloyd Wenzel has replaced Ray Oviatt as meat cutter at Stone’s grocery store here. Ralph C. Steiner writes from "somewhere in Marianas” that he enjoyed a turkey dinner at Christmas time but “nothing can beat the turkey you cook, Dad.” Ralph is now a permanent gaurd on duty on one of the islands. He states that there are still Japs "hanging around" and are always trying to steal food. He states that he saw a Jap | while on duty the other day but did not get a shot. However, no soldier wanders alone into the wooded areas as he might not come back. They recently put up screens to keep out the giant mos- quitoes. WEDDING RITES Mr. and Mrs. E. Morris an nounce the marriage of their daughter Margaret to George Pullman Anderson, S 1/c, on De- cember 23, at Del Monte, Cal. Mrs. Anderson, who is now a teacher at Hermiston high school, is a graduate of Montana State col lege and a member of Kappa Del ta Sorority. Previous to his enlistment, Mr. Anderson completed three years at Montana State college. He is now a student at the Naval Training school, studying electrical and me chanical engineering at Del Monte. California. The couple were united in mar riage at the school's chapel which was decorated with cedar and pine, by Chaplain Haskins. Now both have resumed their respec tive duties.
