THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1943. UMATILLA NEWS Bu Mrt. Glann Ostrom The Umatilla schools are having a pre-school clinic at the school house November 30, starting at 9 o’clock. This covers ages from 6 months on. The county nurse and doctor will be in charge. The Pocahontas lodge initiated 12 new members into their lodge last Thursday at their regular meeting. Mrs. Dean Newgard entertained the pinochle club at her home last Wednesday evening. Those present were Madames Melvin Eller, Al Vieg, Fred Rankin, Glenn Ostrom, Oliver McNabb and the hostess. Prizes were won by Mrs. Vieg and Mrs. Rankin. al.x Albert Vieg and Mrs. Glenn Ostrom and son Gary spent Friday in Pendleton shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Gene McFarland and son Merrill who have been making their home in Tacoma the past few months have returned here to their home. Mr. McFarland will be em ployed at Hanford, Wash. Mrs. Ed Johnson, Mrs. Harvey Car lyle and Mrs. Mabel Shaw spent Fri day in Pendleton shopping. Mrs. Ursel Hiatt returned Satur day from Idaho Falls where she was called because of the illness of her mother, who is greatly improved. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Eller received word of the birth of a baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Eller, former residents here. Mr. Eller is in the army now.
