Beauty Haven Under New Management JULY 31-AUG. 1 Miss LaVelle Hunt returned Mon day from a week end in Baker visit ing relatives. Miss Barbara Moore underwent a tonsilectomy at the local hospital Saturday. She returned to her work at the U- O. D. Wednesday. Mrs. J. Edgar Saylor visited last week at Seaside, Ore. Tom Fraser and Gale Felthouse went to Pendleton last Monday to be sworn in the air corps reserve. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Coxen were accompanied home Sunday from Pen dleton by Mrs. Coxen who underwent a minor operation there last week. Jim Todd returned Monday from Portland where he attended the American Legion convention there. Ed Bensel was mail carrier during his absence. Wyne Cassidy, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Cassidy who has been on furlough visiting here for the past month, left for San Francisco Wed nesday morning where he will be in the Air Corp. Mrs. A. M. Smith, who fell and broke her leg early last week, is re ported as very much improved and is able to have visitors. Don C. Brownell motored to Port land Tuesday, accompanied by his daughter Naomi Brownell and Miss Betty Goff of Umatilla. The girls will go on to San Diego where they will spend the next two weeks visit ing with Pvt. Harold Reeves who is from Umatilla. Miss Dorothy Osmond returned Sunday from a week’s visit in San Francisco where she attended her brother’s wedding. Virginia Todd, Virginia Wells, Al berta Johnson, Doris Rodenbaugh, Shirley Walker and Marge William son attended a formal dance at the Pendleton U. S. O. Tuesday evening. Ed Barnett, local “man about town” is now in the local hospital with an injured foot. Zelma Lerdahl, who has been em ployed at the Pacific Power & Light Co. for the past few months, left Sat urday for South Dakota where she will make her home. Sgt. and Mrs. W. D. Carson from i Ft. Carson. Colo., are visiting friends I and relatives here for about ten days. Mrs. Anna Carson of Lewiston, Idaho, visited relatives here last week end. She returned Monday ac companied by Miss Peggy Sommerer who will remain for about a week. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Piersol and son Russell spent Sunday in Meach am. Ann, who has been there for a week, returned home with them. Mrs. Jean Wilson and Miss Mary Lou Johnson spent the week end at the Lazy T dude ranch near Wal lowa Lake. They report an enjoy able time. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rankin. Mr. and Mrs. George Harkenrider and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Gray spent Sat urday night and Sunday on an out ing near Bingham Springs. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Miss Nelma Saylor of Los Angeles, who has been visiting at the home of her brother and family. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Saylor for the past two months, left Tuesday for Laramie.
