With 350 igloos completed and over 6000 men at work on the Ordnance Depot, and with the comple tion of ten to 14 igloos a day, with possibilities of even greater accomplishments, the hopes of Major Schuppner to complete the work before winter seem safe of realization. It is a big job. But with trained heads and driving forces under the inspiration of the defense program, the ordinary citizen here is getting a lesson as to what our country can do when duty calls him to the task. Less than a year ago the field was designated. Weeks later surveying crews arrived. After Christ mas contracts were let and dirt began to fly only last Spring. A tremendous army of workers had to be as sembled and organized, materials provided, and some new plans made. All this in a desert with ser vices in housing and many other requirements con fined to only a few small communities. Yet in less than a year, Uncle Sam will have at his disposal and use for defense one of the largest munition storage plants in the nation. All this in time of peace (or nearly so, yet). What we may do or be called to do if actual war is declar ed may be assumed from this comparatively small unit. While it is an outstanding example of a rally of the nation’s forces, we do know from this that if the entire man and material power of the nation is called what we can do in a brief time to help bring the ter- rorism of the old world to an end. We realize from this example, what ■ can do if it becomes necessary for th Unite d State ; to become the arbiter of nations to protect mankind the world over from the assaults of tyrants, vagaries and crack pot systems. Thus Shell Premium delivers greater power when you want it... gives a new handling ease in traffic. And it delivers top mileage, as well, in new cars and old. Shell Premium costs 2e more than “reg ular”— or about $1 a month extra if you drive the average amount. We recommend the difference to you. You can go to the expense of having the carbon removed regularly, which will help. Or. for temporary relief, you can have the spark retarded (but if you do this, you’ll use up more gasoline). Or you can take a tip from Shell scien tists and switch to Shell Premium — a spe cial motor fuel they’ve created that com pensâtes for the higher compressions which carbon causes.
