Li ob Wooduard The Blue Ribbon Cooking club girls will be hostesses at a tea on Fri day afternoon in honor of their moth ers. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Fritz of Wood- enville, Wash., (near Seattle) were visiting with friends here Monday. Mr. Fritz was a ditch rider in this district about 20 years ago and re sided on the Nebergall place. Mrs. Edwards is quite ill and was taken to a Walla Walla hospital on Tuesday. Her daughters, Mrs. Ar thur Blinston and Mrs. Halliburton went to Walla Walla with her, but were expected to return Wednesday evening. Mrs. Clarence Williams and daugh ter, Della Mae, of LaGrande visited with Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Hutchison Saturday evening. Mrs. Catherine De Moss made a trip to Walla Walla on Saturday and again Sunday on business. Norma Getchell spent the week- end in Boardman visiting Doris Getchell. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Olska and Lee and Jimmy Dallason. all of Ta coma spent the week-end at the El mer Ryland home. Mrs. Olska is a niece of Mr. Ryland. Henry Garberding and nephew, Bill, drove to Pasco st Saturday evening to see the semilfinal games of the Washington State Softball Tournament and on Sunday, accom panied by Mrs. Garberding, they saw the finals played and enjoyed a picnic dinner with friends from Grandview. Mr. and Mrs. Myrnie Caldwell vis ited at the home of her parents in Stanfield Sunday, and were accom panied by Carolyn Woodward who remained there for several days’ vis it. Shirley Stockard has been visiting his parents here after several months spent at various points in the middle western states. He is going on to Se attle where he expects to be employ ed in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Myrnie Caldwell vis ited friends in Pendleton Tuesday evening. Chapman and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Chapman and Sam Nelson, all of Pilot Rock spent Sun day evening at the Baxter Hutchison home. Hart of Ontario take over the interests of H. H. Mack in the brick building which houses the Shaw Bakery, Gam ble Store and the Knerr Repair Shop. Although nothing definite has been announced, it is understood that the Harts plan to operate a lunch room and will probably renovate the sec ond story into a rooming house. Some shifting of store locations will be necessary but to date no an nouncement has been made as to who will move where. ■ e e FOOTBALL MEN TO REPORT SEPT. 2 AT LOCAL SCHOOL A sure sign of fall, football talk is in the air. The Hermiston high school Bulldogs will report for prac tice Tuesday, Septembere 2, accord ing to Ray E. Critchfield, head coach. Suits and other equipment will be issued on that date and it is import ant that all those wishing to turn out be on hand on that date. Coach Critchfield will have an as- sistant this year. Lee Webber, recent ly of Junction City, will handle part of the coaching duties. He has had previous experience at Estacada and Eugene. Prospects for a winning team this year are considerably brighter than in recent seasons due to the increased number of students who will attend here. However, the quality of the turnout is still very uncertain and it will be several weeks before the exact strength will be known.
