FOOTBALL MEN TO
REPORT SEPT. 2
AT LOCAL SCHOOL
A sure sign of fall, football talk
is in the air. The Hermiston high
school Bulldogs will report for prac
tice Tuesday, Septembere 2, accord
ing to Ray E. Critchfield, head coach.
Suits and other equipment will be
issued on that date and it is import
ant that all those wishing to turn
out be on hand on that date.
Coach Critchfield will have an as-
sistant this year. Lee Webber, recent
ly of Junction City, will handle part
of the coaching duties. He has had
previous experience at Estacada and
Eugene.
Prospects for a winning team this
year are considerably brighter than
in recent seasons due to the increased
number of students who will attend
here. However, the quality of the
turnout is still very uncertain and
it will be several weeks before the
exact strength will be known.
URGENT APPEAL TO
WASHINGTON MADE
The local school district with the
aid of E. P. Dodd Thursday night
contacted Washington. D. C. con
cerning the local school situation.
Night letters were also addressed to
Oregon Congressmen and Senators.
Some concern has been expressed
locally that federal aid for the
schools here will arrive by the open
ing of school, September 8. The cor
respondence asked for immediate
consideration.
