T he men report very good fishing b ut the w eather was fairly cool. It snowed practically all the tim e they were there. Bara- g ar for the past m onth, left for Spo kane, W n., Saturday to visit w ith relatives and friends. Mrs. R. C. McReynolds and Mrs. G. S. H edwall m otored to Spokane W ednesday of last week to be w ith Mr. and Mrs. M orris Pierson. Mrs. McReynolds retu rn ed Sunday but Mrs. Hedwall rem ained for a longer visit. Mr. and Mrs. Dayton H arris have purchased the L. H ord residence. The H arris’ took possession Sunday. They plan to modernize the house and make other im provem ents. The Hords left Sunday for the coast. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Q uiring came last F riday to spend u n til T hursday w ith th e ir sons and families, A1 and Leander. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Q uir ing o f Chicago, an o th er son, came W ednesday and accompanied his p ar ents to Dallas where they will spend a week before going back to Chicago. Mrs. Orene Nelson of San Diego is spending a week w ith her sister, Mrs. M. E. K nickerbocker and fam ily. Mr. Nelson, who is visiting in Idaho, is planning to re tu rn Sunday to spend a few days here. Mrs. K nickerbocker and d au g h ter Kay plan to accompany the Nelsons to San Diego to visit relative a week. Dairy Group Gets Warning. Governor Sprague’s address before the sta te dairy council in Portland last week was generally interpreted as a w arning th a t the industry m ust revamp its control m ethods during the next two years or face the possibility of repeal of the con tro l act by the next legislature. Sprague opposed repeal of the milk control act by the last legislature explaining th a t he favored giving th a t board one more chance to make good a t its job. New Farmer Locates Here. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Rogers and son Emsley of A shland, Oregon, have moved to the Columbia dis tric t w here they will begin farm ing operations. They are accompanied by an o th er son and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. E m m ett Rogers. Two oth er children will probably Join the group later in the summ er when they "finish teaching duties. Mr. Rogers states th a t he will probably raise chickens. He form erly resided here and sta te s th a t conditions look b etter th an they did 10 years ago. He is rebuilding the buildings and m aking other im provem ents on his farm. Dodd in the Oregon display and stated th a t the Oregon exhibit contains sev eral in te restin g features. Especially so is an anim ated picture of the Ore gon coast about 7x12 feet in which ocean spray is seen and waves roll ing. It is lighted and creates a b eautiful scene. T here a re many individual build ings on th e grounds and a fair v isit or has every type of en tertain m en t to choose from. A large th eatre, California, is noted for its high class stage shows. Cavalcade, an outside perform ance, is a p o rtray al of the history of the west— coming of the railroads, Indians, soldiers, cow boys and old trains. A well a rra n g ed spray of w ater is used instead of a cu rtain . V arious shades of light are played on the spray to give dif ferent effects. The F ine A rts building contains aome of the old m aster pain tin g s of Italy and oth er foreign countries. They are heavily guarded and a re very rare. M a n y contem porary pain tin g s are also shown. Mr. W arn er stated th a t the best way to get acquainted a t the expo sition is to take one of th e numerous train s ru n n in g through the grounds. The parking space is well arran g ed but he stated th a t one has to be careful to keep a park in g slip because it is very easy to lose one’s autom obile among the thousands parked there daily. Admission to th e fair is 55c and 50c p ark in g charge. A nother 50c is §aid in crossing th e bridge to th e fairgrounds. All the talk th a t the fair is not yet finished is “ bunk” , according to Mr. W arner. H e noticed only one building th a t was still u nder con struction. The W arners saw television dem onstrated and declared th a t a screen was used above a regular sized radio on w hich they could see the perform ers. An in terestin g feature is the tele phone building w here it is possible to talk to anyone in th e United States free of charge providing one is lucky enough to be am ong th e w inners. A loud speaking system is a rra n g ed about the en tire grounds and some type of music and en te rta in m ent is going on all th e time. Mr. W arn er attended a banquet for Amos Alozno Stagg, famous coach now at the College of Pacific, held in San Francisco. Stagg is now 77 years of age and was presented a gold football. Mr. W arn er also saw Joe DiMaggio’s Italian G rotto, and vis ited the Stanford campus where he w atched Clyde Jeffreys, sta r sp rin t er, work out, and th e Stanford foot ball team a t spring practice. The w eather was d elightful all the tim e b ut Mr. W arn er stated th a t warm coats w ere necessary p racti cally all the tim e on the island p ar ticu larly a t night.
