The beef is being sold at a premium and the mon ey will be put into a club fund. R ichards, su p e rin ten d e n t of th e Union E xperim ent S tatio n and w ell know n as one of the best live sto c k judges in the U nited S tates, told 4- h clubbers th a t U m atilla co u n ty boys and girls need not take a back se at for any in the nation, p o in tin g out th a t Oregon has long been recognized as a leading 4-H clu b sta te , and U m atilla county club bers are am ong th e top-notchers in Oregon. W alter H olt, county a g e n t from P endleton, acted as m aster of cere m onies du rin g th e program and in troduced W. G. K ersbergen, who sta te d th a t 4-H club w ork is edu catio n al, and not stric tly a g ric u ltu r al, due to th e various projects a v a il able. Miss F rances Clinton, county .home dem onstration agent, stated th a t d u rin g 1937, 30 g irls clubs w ere active w ith 264 members, or 199 d iffe re n t girls, some c a rry in g more th a n one pro je c t, for th e year. An in crease of 50 p ercent in enrollm ent was seen w ith m any g irls ca rry in g the same projects m ore th a n one year. T his is com m endable, show ing th e ir in te re st in th e work. Two new com m unities have entered th e work th is year and those a re Adams an d P ine City. In the w est end of Uma tilla county 12 clubs are enrolled w ith nine leaders.
