Mr. Thom pson showed and ex­
plained c h a rts of th e ty p ical diver­
sified farm in th is a re a used as ex­
ample, b ut explained th a t each farm
problem was d ifferen t, and m ust be
worked o u t by th e individual w ith
the county cem m lttee.
The sum m ing up of th e program
is th a t th e farm er m ust follow cer­
ta in p ractices w hich m ay be per­
formed to a tta in e ith e r soil deplet­
ing or soil conserving goals in or­
der to o b tain the farm allow ance.
The farm er who was in th e p r o ­
gram last y ear w ill receive no more
benefits th a n th e one in th e pro­
gram today, Mr. Thompson said. An
exam ple of a typical w h eat farm was
also used in ex p lain in g th e pro­
gram.
The county and d istric t com m it­
tee is a t th e service of an y farm er
who w ishes assistan ce in lin in g up
his farm w ith th e program .

GOLDEN DALE
T he opening of the S tar th e a tre
a t G oldendale, W n.. on November 6,
was a g ran d success w ith th e pres­
e n ta tio n of B ing Crosby in “ Double
or N o th in g ,” an d th e five local ta l­
e n t vaudeville acts. The th e a tre was
purchased In A ugust by th e m an ­
ag er o t th e Oasis th e a tre a t H er­
m iston an d Is being managed by
Louise E b ert, know n In th e a tre c ir­
cles for m any years as a capable in ­
te rio r d eco rato r an d rem odeling ex­
pert.
T he th e a tre foyer was bedecked
in fall flow ers se n t as tokens of a p ­
p reciatio n an d co n g ra tu latio n s by
th e Cham ber of Commerce. L ions’
club. G oldendale RetAil M erchants’
association, and several m erch an ts
in tow n. A rich ly colored carp et had
been laid as floor covering th e
m orning before th e opening, and th e
fro n t foyer, balcony and au d ito riu m
showed th e h an d iw o rk of Louis E b­
ert.
Included in m any o th er im prove­
m ents were renew ed fro n t, newly
laid sidew alks in color, foyer w ith
m odernistic fu rn itu re , new carpets
for foyer aisles, drapes, new b al­
cony, and th e ad d itio n ot 60 new
c h a irs in th e balcony.
