Those who sleep in F la n d e r’s field and graves of th e hom eland, and those who lie in our hospitals, m ade th e g rea t sacrifice. T he to rch they let fall for th e ir co u n try has been D "M odern’’ furniture is, of course, very much in vo-nie and i t ’s "rand to work with in : ' ense. Never before has <. ‘d in such a riotous fashion-ti;c-.e's an- other new shade and new color arouna every corner. A great deal of the modern fu m i- ture is of unstained or unpainted wood and much is painted in light colors-grays, creams, white, ivory, and so on. In which case it’s COLOR for the walls, a grand luxury of color. The new paint mixtures can be used to great advantage here-cggplant, chartreuse, deep blues, gorgeous yel lows and brilliant greens. And the simplicity and light color of the fu rn iture is a perfect foil for th e burst of color on the w alls-and it isn't tiring, either. A popular treatm ent is to have one or two walls one color and th e rem ainder another. This gives a depth and an illusion of space which is most satisfactory. And these shades in paint have a richness which is com plimentary to every kind of fabric-woolens, chintz, c o tto n - even fur. The ceilings get th eir color bath, too. Deep brown walls with light peach ceiling are very effective, or the same walls with a soft yellow. Some people, particularly if their rooms are very high-posted, reverse the order and keep the walls a light shade and the ceiling dark to break down the height of the room. And it is charming. Another heartening thing about this modern fu rn itu re -it can be pur- chased unpaintod and then you can go to work on it yourself with a can of enamel in your own chosen shade, thus making it ever so much sin pier to work out your own room color schemes. We are for it in every way. ■ist try one room for yourself. I t ’ll ive you a new lease on life and a ■ealth of pride once you'”e finished. for th e past year has been 66.
