The sale was a side issue to the Herml-ton-Helix basketball game. Incidentally, the absentees missed one of the very best basket ball games of the year when they failed to attend last Saturday’s game. The attendance was poor neverthe less, little more than enough to pay the referee being taken in at the door. The Hermiston schools are getting well settled into a quite ambitious program of speech training; the high school under the direction of Mr. Henry N. Harger and the elementary grades guided by Miss Elanor Dally. The high school will enter a team of four in the Umatilla District of the Oregon Debating League, and in ad dltion will enter a contestant in the National Oratorical Contest, as well as compete in the Oregon State Col The high school paper The Exam lege Extemporaneous and Interpre iner has outgrown its present man tive speaking. Final entries will be made in the four divisions of the agers, the Junior class, and a new Umatilla County High School Orator editorial staff was elected Wednes- ical Contest. In the grade school re presentatives of the lower division (third, fourth and fifth grades) and the upper division (sixth, seventh, and eighth grades) will meet other schools for county honors. FANCY CAPONS WANTED Prices Very Favorable to the Producers This year there will be Just two kinds of declamations for the elemen tary pupils, humorous and non-hu- morous. Since each school is allowed one contestant from each division in humorous and one in non-humor- oue, Hermiston elementary school will be represented In the sectional contest by two pupils from the lower division and two from the upper di vision. Another change effective this year is the method of timing. At the end. of the alloted time the timing judges will rap and the speaker must immediately retire. This rule was not thoroughly understood last year, and resulted in some confusion, but this year it will be strictly enforced as stated above. The dates for the sectional contest have not yet been set by Superin tendent Fitzpatrlc of Echo, Sectional Director. The county contest will be held on Saturday, April 4, the Inter- County at Heppner, April 18, and the state meeting on April 23 and 24. This year the county contests will all be held on one day, Saturday. That is the elementary speakers will meet in the afternoon, and the high school in the evening. It Is expected the sectional contest will be conducted in like manner. Each year the winners In the county meeting are barred for the next succeeding year, and those bar red this year are as follows: Ele mentary grades: Makers of the Flag, Wings, Sister Caroline’s Speaking, Freedom or Slavery, The Highway man, and Sis Hopkins. High school: Spartacus’ Address to the Slaves, They GTlnd Exceedingly Fine and The Dutch Orator. Serial No. 023786 HOUSE FOR RENT— THE LOCHRIE U. S. Department of Interior, U. There are more than twenty in all — an unusually large num ber. Each bearing is adequate in size and carefully selected for the work it has to do. At some points in the Ford chassis you will find ball bearings. At others, roller bearings are used regardless o f their higher cost. The deciding factor ia the per formance of the car. The extensive use of hall and roller bearings in the new Ford insures smoother operation, saves gasoline, increases speed and power, gives quicker pick-up, de creases noise, and gives greater reliability and longer life to vital moving parts. Other outstanding features that make the new Ford a value far above the price arc the Triplex shatter-proof glass windshield, silent, fully enclosed four-wheel brakes, four Houdaille double-acting hydraulic shock absorb ers, aluminum pistons, chrome silicon alloy valves, three-quarter floating rear axle, Rustless Steel, the ex tensive use of fine steel forgings, and unusual accuracy in manufacturing.
