More and more, local people are becoming convinced that asparagus Is a mighty satisfactory aideline crop on the project. The satisfac tion with the crop undoubtedly will lead to further expansion In acre age next spring. Hermiston, Umatilla County, Oregon Subscription Kates Ona Tear __ ____ __________ »2.0« Six Mont h a ......... ......................... »l.Ot (Payable In Advance) ASPARAGUS BIDES HIGH The settlement secured on this year's shipments of asparagus by the Umatilla Project Growers' Associa tion from the Three Rivers Growers association which did the marketing Job wag very satisfactory, according to remarks made by local growers. The price was »1.45 per 12 pound box to the association. Aftes de ductions for handling, brokerage and boxes were made growers still had an average price of »1.17 per box, or nine and three-fourths cents per pound for the crop. Not so bad! The men who have gone to the expense of putting li beds and caring for them are feeling pretty good over this year’s opera tlons. They are also looking into the future with the expectation of doing better. Practically all of the local beds are young and can not be cut closely. Another year will show a much larger yield than was secured this season, and even If the price should be lower, tl«e added volume Is almose sure to bring gross receipts from the spring shoots to a it new blood among merchants in- llcatee growth and progress the vorld will do well to keep an eye ,n Pendleton. The past few weeks lave developed a number of changes, tnd the Round-up city Is showing a brand of confidence stronger than it has had since war days. Times do change. Not many years ago a kid could get lost In the woods and no one much except par ents got wrought up about It. But lackle Strong made a lot of front pages and had thousands of people interested in his case. How about contracts, now Nice little shower we had.
