Automotive engineers have long recognized that the most suitable crude petroleum so far discovered from which to manufacture a motor oil is produced on the Pacific Coast It is Naphthenic Base Crude. “A lth ou gh thinning out m ore rapidly, the “77i inning D ow n ” an Advantage (w e ste r n ) oil d oes not sh o w a n y greater T h e motor oil (Zerolene) which is refined from this crude has characteristics some w h a t different from those o f eastern paraffine base oils. It “thins d o w n ” more rapidly for one thing, and this fact is oft en cited against it. B u t this is really an advantage instead o f a defect Because it thins d o w n m ore rapidly, it reaches an effective lubricating body sooner, and fol low s m ore closely the changing bearing clearances o f the engine as it w a rm s up. A Better O il Even i f I t Does Cost Less Zerolene, because w e employ only se lected crude and hold the patents on our high-vacuum refining process, is, w e are convinced, one o f the most care fully manufactured oils on the market, whether o f eastern or western origin. Y e t it costs about one-third less than eastern oil. In seven years the sales o f Zerolene have increased seven-fo’d. T h e more experienced the motorist, the less likely he is to pay tribute to a superstition. H e in s is ts on Z e r o le n e e v e n i f it d o e s c o s t le s s . STANDARD OIL COMPANY - .
