This is the se cond attempt of these boys to serve their country, they having been re jected in the first try. Johny Adams went to Pendleton the first of the week and enlisted and later went to Portland to take the aviation examination. Principal Beckman of the high school, who was put in class 1, has al so taken examination before the Pendleton army officer, and be expects to be called fur duty sometime next month. Harry Kelly and Hollis Percy are mure of Hermiston’s patriotic yuuug men that want tu du their bit toward winning the war, and in pursuance of this they have gune to Portland to en list. TUESDAY WAS RED CROSS WORK DAY Mrs. E. A Shittiler of Pendleton, Red Cross sewing instructor, was here Tuesday giving instructions to tbe members uf tbe Hermiston auxiliary in tbe work of making garments, bandages, e’e, fur uur soldiers and sailors. On that day the wurk room next to the po-toffice presented a busy scene, there having been about 30 ladies present and thirteen sewing machines in operation Tuesday of next week the wurk room will be again upen all day.
