Mrs Furnas was at Pendleton Thurs day to visit her grandson. Miss McPherson visited with her parents la Pendleton from Friday until Monday. There will be plenty to go around in tnis country and some for Europe. Don’t speculate. If you have money to speculate with-buy a government bond. Buy what you need, as you need it, from your regular dealer. Pay as promptly as possible. It costs a lot to do business now and your dealer needs the money. We carry a staple line of goods to choose from at the right price, and a safe place to trade. Miss Nellie Ober, of Auburn, Ind., cousin of Paul S. Jonee, is a guest at the Jones home for a short time. Dr. Wainscott, who recently made application as an army surgeon, has received word to be ready for a call to service. Mr. and Mrs Hinkle and Mra. Ing ham drove to Pendleton Wednesday where Mrs Hinkle acted as judge in the floral show. Thursday afternoon the M. E. aid waa delightfully entertained at the home of Mra. Johnson, Mrs. Bauchard and Mra. T. W. Sapper assisting. Friday evening of last week Mrs. Jones entertained her Sunday school class with a slumber party and Arlene Kennedy was included as a guest. A splendid time was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Wm. Kennedy, Arlene and Marjorie left Sunday afternoon for Walla Walla. After a week there with Mrs. Kennedy’s sister, they will join Mr. Kennedy in Portland. Rhubarb: Choose young and succu lent growth. Prepare as for stewing by skinning the stalks and cutting into pieces about one-fourth inch to one- half inch in length and dry on trays.
