W alker, of Attractive to Many the W alker Fox F arm , a re m aking In te re s t in th e O utlook's free cooking school w as keen yesterday, as indicated in the atten d a n ce of 80 women, eager to learn th e new est and best in cookery. Miss D orothy Mae H ubbs, home econom ist expert, who w as introduced by Mrs. H. L. St. C lair of th e Outlook, m ade a de cided hit w ith th e w omen by the ch arm in g w ay in w hich she con ducted the class and th e fre sh and in te restin g suggestions w hich she bro u ght for home cookery. It w as q u ite evident th a t she w as p erfec t ly capable of p rep arin g a com plete m eal for a fam ily w ithout delay or confusion and a t th e sam e tim e ex p lain every step of th e process. H er lessons yesterday included a ro a st, a graham cra c k e r cream cake, a cabbage salad cam ouflaged in such a m anner th a t the m ost p ern ick ety person would be te m p t ed to eat it; noodle ring, m ost a t tra c tiv e and a w hole m eal in itself; and spiced chocolate doughnuts. T oday's lessons included am ong o th e r things, broiled pork chops w ith pineapple and tw o or th ree kinds of pie. A num ber of w orth-w hile prizes a re given aw ay each day, m ade possible by th e generous su p p o rt of G resham m erchants. Y esterday Mrs. J. G .M etzger received a five- pound pail of la rd , th e g ift of B row n’s Meat M arket. Mrs. Vida Stubbs, Mrs. M. C. S m edsrud, Mrs. F. H. Davis, Mrs. L. T. The cooking contest, w hich was announced at the cooking school yesterday, has been called off. T his w as a fe a tu re th a t had not been planned for and it w as found th a t th e tim e w as too sh o rt to p roperly a rra n g e th e details and m ake the co n test a success. T he stag e a t th e g ran g e h all is an ideal place for a dem onstration, as it is high enough to m ake the o p eratio n s plainly visible from all p a rts of th e room. E ach y ear they have g ra d u ally added to th e num ber and kept up th e q u ality of th e s tra in until now they have 80 silver foxes, am ong th e best in th e n o rth w est. T his y ear Mr. WTalk er is plan ning on m aking ready a shipm ent of about 20 p elts for th e ea ste rn m ark ets. P reviously fhey have sold only for breeding purposes. Mrs. W alker sta te s th a t the top price for a fox pelt in New Y ork la st year w as $685 and th a t the av erag e price w as $285. T he silv er foxes sold for breeding p urposes from th e W alker farm av erag e $1250 per pair. At th is rate , w ith a farm of 50 or m ore foxes th e ow ners have not only a larg e in v estm en t but also realize a very good in te re st on th e money in volved. Mr. and Mrs. W alker have m any v isito rs from different p a rts of the co u n try , who are very m uch in te r ested in th e ir farm . T h ere a re 150 C hinchilla rab b its on th e farm th a t also a ttr a c t m uch atten tio n . Mrs. W alker, who has com plete ch arg e of th e rab b its, says th a t in the sp rin g she expects to have b u ilt a rab b itry th a t will house at least 300 of th e fu r b earin g anim als.
