Cannon of the G resham Union high school was nom inated S atu rd ay night on the first ballot for th e county school superintendency, a t a m eeting of th e republican precinct com m it teem en for th is county held in the au ditorium of Lincoln high school, P o rtland. T here w ere eight candidates in th e field. It w as thought by some it would be a close rac e betw een a t least tw o of th e a s p ira n ts b u t it w as soon evident th a t Mr. Cannon w as in m ost favor w ith th e com m itteem en. The votes lined up afte r his nam e totaled 128, w hile his n e a re st com petitor got 45. T here w ere 212 votes cast. T here w as no m aterial d is crepancy in the voting on w hich to base th e rep o rt w hich gained some cu rren cy th a t th e re w as du p lica tion in the voting. Cannon Appointed to Fill Vacancy. T he county com m issioners at th e ir reg u la r m eeting on Monday appointed Mr. Cannon to fill th e va cancy caused by th e death of W. C. A lderson. He w ill file his bond to day and en ter upon his duties as county school su p e rin ten d e n t a t once. His resig n atio n as principal of the high scool w ill ta k e effect a t th e sam e time. A com m ittee w aited upon the county com m issioners yesterday u rg ing th a t in view of the re a so n able ce rta in ty of C annon's election and trie need of filling th e vacancy th a t Mr. Cannon be appointed to th e county office at once. Mr. Cannon w ill be m issed from th e high school w ith w hich he has been connected for the past eight y ears, but w ith his wide ac q u ain t ance and the opp o rtu n ities of his new office it is believed he will still ren d er g re a t a ssista n ce to the school he is now leaving as w ell as all th e ru ra l and high schools of the county. It is acknow ledged he is w ell qualified by tra in in g , ex perience and perso n ality to fill cred itab ly and efficiently th e office of county school superintendent. No action has been tak en by the high school board as yet w ith re f erence to the p rincipalship o f the high school. Roy E. Cannon. Meet the new county school su perintendent.
