At th e be ginning of th e S panish-A m erican w ar Mr. Cooper, w ith o th e r sta te norm al stu d en ts, m ade an effort to en list in th e arm y, b u t as th e North D akota quota was full, he ( was unable to do this. D uring the W orld w ar he w as prom inently Identified w ith the prom otion of bond and w ar stam p sales, and was one of a com m ittee engaged in filling o u t th e q u estio n n aires. ( In addition to th ese various duties Mr. Cooper found tim e to atten d to ' a 200-acre farm , b ut th is w as only ’ in reg ard to its ren tal.
