CL VIM Boring, Ore., Ju n e 21. 1927 E di tor Outlook After reading the le t ter by H W. S nashall. will you per rail me a few lines in defense of the bee license, as undoubtedly th e re seem s to be a m isu n d ersta n d ing as to logical facts. Let Mr. S nashall s ta rt out some day, m ake a short to u r of our w on derful country, ask some of his neighbors if they have bees, and they will answ er "We used to have bees but foul brood has taken them ." And this is th e reason a license Is required, not for the bees but for the man th a t cares for the bees. As foul brood is m enacing th e honey indu stry of the country, people who have one or tw o sw arm s of bees th a t a re attacked by foul brood, and they do not u n d erstand w hat it is and w hat to do for It The bees fly about the flow ers, ca rry in g th is disease, then bees from other apiaries c a rry it back to th e ir sw arm and w hat h ap pens? T his foul brood Is spread on and on, and if nothing Is done will soon eradicate all the bees. W hereas, if a license is needed the governm ent has the beekeep er's nam e and address and his hives will be Inspected, and he will be told w hat to do It he has the foul brood In his sw arm s. And ev e n tu ally th is m enace will be eradicated. Ho th is license Is only a protection for the bee not a g reat Injustice.) as th e im pression w as given JO HN EGGIMAN Please phone or write Items for the Outlook—but give your real name.
