It is p articu la rly fitting th at th e nation should honor the m em ory of the heroes who in an sw er to duty's call have sacrificed all th a t we who rem ain and those who come a fte r m ight enjoy the b le ss ings of n atio n al unity, peace and freedom. Not to do th is is to be despicably u n g rate fu l and unw orthy. And the occasion is used tg dec o rate th e restin g places of r e la tives and friends. "F rien d a fte r friend departs. Who hath not lost a frien d ?” By atten d in g th e m em orial s e r vice on Monday and Joining th e p a trio tic m arch to th e cem etery we will do but a sm all p a rt of w hat the day suggests and will help to p er p etuate the ap p ro p riate custom . T he graduation exercises of th e eighth grad e class of th e T rou td ale school w ere held a t th e schoolhouse on May 20 in the auditorium of the new building, w ith a large crow d in attendance. T his class had the distinction of being th e first to g rad u a te from the new school. T he auditorium w as beautifully decorated w ith Scotch broom and wild blue delphinium by th e T ro u t dale F low er club, c a rry in g out the class colors of blue and gold. Two sm all girls, K athleen McGinnis and B arb ara Spence, acted as flower girls. They w ere daintily dressed in blue and gold. T he m em bers of th e class com pleted th e ir sta te te sts w ith very cre d itab le grades. Nola Sm ith had not been absent or ta rd y during th e la st tw o years, and every grade th a t she has received d u rin g th a t tim e h as been above 90 per cent.
