Mrs. A nna W allin is recovering from a severe siege of flu. She w as ill for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Newcotnbe w ere happily su rp rised Monday evening when friends from P o rt land, Mr. and Mrs. McQuin and th e ir daughter Lorene, and Ed Page of S eattle cam e in. Music, dancing and cards m ade the tim e pass pleasantly. R efreshm ents w ere served. R ecent guests of Mr. and Mrs. B ert B aker on Maple avenue were Roy J. B aker and fam ily of G rass Valley, Oregon. Mr. Baker, who is an attorney, had business in P o rt land for the week. B ert B aker and fam ily and his sister Mrs. C lara B aker drove to G rass V alley S a t urday for a visit w ith frien d s and relatives. Mr. B aker and wife re turned Monday but Mrs. C lara Ba ker rem ained for a stay of a week with her daughter, Mrs. Guy Moore. Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Schw anke and children have recently moved to G resham from Schefllin. a sm all place near H illsboro, w here Mr. Schw anke w as in the g eneral m er chandise business 14 years. They are occupying the C alkins house on Maple avenue. Mr. Schw anke has obtained a position w ith the Hessel Im plem ent com pany as country agent. Miss Lucy Adams is moving to day into her house on Cleveland avenue and Powell street. She plans to remodel th e residence which, when com pleted, will con tain a three-room ap a rtm en t for rental. The prem ises w ere vacated W ednesday by Victor K yle who has lived th ere for th e past two and a half years. J. It. H arlan has leased th ree acres of the place which lie will put into potatoes. ,1. F. B arnes Is driving a new car. a Dodge sedan w hich he recently purchased through the agency of Brockway * Nelson. Mrs. J. C. H essel is here from Mabton, W ashington, for a two- w eeks' visit with her sons W. A. and fam ily and John H essel anil her daughter Mrs. Jam es Elking- ton. Mr. and Mrs. F ra n k P utnam have recently bought an acre of land on lllrdsdale avenue north of Powell Valley road. They cam e here from Fern Prairie. W ashington. Mr. P u t man Is a carpenter. Congdon, of Vernonia, was in G resham la st Saturday calling on old friendg. "B ill” Is looking fine and says he has recovered from his recent illness.
