Cecil Pounder surprised his wife on her birthday, the 28th of September, by installing a Universal electric range for her in their home. The many friends of Henry Christ ensen wish him a speedy recovery from his illness. He is in an open air sanitarium trying to regain his strength which was lost by two blood transfusions during his father’s ill ness. Mrs. Christensen and little daughter will remain in Portland with her mother. Mrs. Wm. Wright entertained the Springdale Needle club last week. Their next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Della Henkle. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Northway re turned home from California recently and reported a nice time, but the weather very hot and dry. The Parent-Teacher association of Springdale met Wednesday evening and discussed some important ques tions, such as having hot lunches for the children, and also things that should be done in order to meet the requirements for a standard school. Miss Luella Poulsen from Canada was here a few days visiting friends. POWELL VALLEY A bake sale will be held at the home of Dr. J. O. Sture on Saturday, Octo ber 9, beginning at 1 p. m. and con tinuing during the evening. This will be under the auspices of the church building committee of the Saron Luth eran church. Refreshments will be served afternoon and evening in con nection with the sale. A musical pro gram will be rendered. All the goods at the sale will be home-cooked.
