Judd, who th is year g raduated from the Milton F reew ater high school. Leslie had been on a trip into Canadian borders a year ago and wus so delighted w ith th e wild g ran d eu r of the country he determ ined on a long hike this sum m er w hich should tuke him well into th e in te rio r of A laska. The boy is m aking the Journey on foot for the first 500 m iles, then will proceed tiy train and boat from the n o rth ern border of B ritish Colum bia to F airbanks. T he re tu rn trip is to he m ade tiy steam er. He left home Ju n e 1 for the long jaunt, and a little over a m onth la ter w as still hittin g the tra il w hich extends n o rthw ard through ce n tral B ritish Columbia, the path which had been blazed by the teleg rap h linem en for use In the e x tension of tiler lines. Young Judd, who Is much in terested In a g ric u l ture. is m aking tills hike purely for recreatio n ami th e study of his fa vorlte p u rsu it along tills line. There is an a g ric u ltu ra l ex perim ent statio n located at F airb an k s and here he ex peels to m ake an exhaustive study of w hatever th e re may lie to offer for his in terest and instru ctio n . He took up an ag ric u ltu ra l course w hile in high school and It Is his am bition to lake a college course at Oregon A gri c u ltu ra l college beginning eith er this or the follow ing year. The linem en have constructed ca b ins at varying In tervals along tile trail, probably 10 to 15 m iles ap art, and these a re well equipped w ith pro visions, bedding and stoves. Pack tra in s visit these cam ps hut once a year with new supplies, hence it can lie readily seen th e ir advent is a w a it ed with m uch an ticip atio n by those obliged to trav el th is tra il in p u rsu ance of th e ir duties, o r o th e rs who m ake the Journey for o th e r reasons. Tin- w anderer, in m any Interestin g epistles to his p aren ts, depicts the w onders of the scenery and incidents of the trip. But tw o m onths of the year render suitab le w eather for tills hike and those d esiring to m ake it are com paratively few in num ber. Word is sent along from one linem an to an o th er and when the tra v e le r a r rives, tie is trea ted m ost hospitably. W hile no bellboy an sw ers the ring for hot or cold w ater and w hile a t some of th e cabins the carp et on the floor is th e hare ea rth and th e w in dows are conspicuous on account of th e ir absence, the handshake is hearty and the sm ile cordial and a hot drink of coffee out of a lin cup answ ers th e purpose as well as If served from one of D resden T his is one of th e longest tra ils in th e world as w ell as one of th e most picturesque. Speaking of the m oun tain s, Leslie says it looks as though all of th e snow -capped peaks of the United S tates w ere Bned up side by aide.
