T he co u n try generally, th is p a rt in p artic u la r, w as basking in th e com fo rt o f a m ild ea rly w inter w hen, zip! from th e frozen regions of th e n o rth w est sw ept down th e b rea th of th e fro st king, sending a chill throughout th e w hole land. Very low te m p e ra tu re s have been recorded in som e places, including lo catio n s in Oregon. T he»records show th is to have been the coldest C h rist m as season in w estern Oregon in 50 years. At th a t th is p a rtic u la r location is very fo rtu n a te , having plenty of fuel and provisions, and, unless all signs fail, in a few days th e w arm ing south w est w inds w ill bring up show ers th a t w ill m ake old B oreas slink back to th e n o rth la n d w hence he came. He can n o t go too soon to su it m ost O regonians. T he con test being held to secure a state-w ide brand nam e for Oregon and W ashington products is a ttra c tin g w idespread a tte n tln th ro u g h o u t every section, according to th e ch airm an of the co n test com m ittee, E.
