I t sim ply m eans th a t the enforce m ent of prohibition In New York sta te w ill be in th e hands of federal au th o rities instead of sta te authorities. It is a backw ard step, w ithout doubt, but th a t Is w h at the liquor ele m ent is w orking for and alw ays has T he frien d s of righ teo u sn ess have th e ir faces set tow ard a b etter fu tu re and are ever seeking to m ake th is old w orld a cleaner, sa fe r happier place to live In. T he stru g g le may be pro longed and th e final victory w ait but th e u ltim ate outcom e does not hang on a th rea d of doubt. It m ight be expected th a t in the tem porary reaction a g a in st prohibi tion the big s ta r t would come from a sta te like New York w ith Its large population of foreigners who are stra n g e rs to A m erican Ideals, and its large money in te re sts w hich are , sad to say, too often closely allied w ith th e foes of righteousness.
