A Phone 1083 The Jones Lumber company is do ing a thriving business In Gresham. The yard and office is on the corner of Powell street and Maple avenue. It is a branch of the Jones Lumber com pany of P ortland. The Portland mill on 1280 Macadam street In South Portland is one of th e large m ills in Portland. J. G. Mast has been the m anager of the plant at Gresham for the past five years. When asked w hat is the best way to get trad e Mr. Mast said he be lieves the key to th a t problem is hav ing w hat the builder needs. At the present time, during the shortage of cem ent, th is yard Is able to get ce m ent through the Portland yard which has a contract calling for a certain num ber of car loads of cem ent to be delivered at a specified tim e. By hav ing all of the m aterial needed it is easier to get a com plete order for ail m aterial needed for the building. D uring the t>ast year some im prove m ents have been made a t the Gresham plant. T hree new roofs were put on the lum ber sheds on November 1st of last year requiring between 8,000 and 9,000 square feet of roofing. All of the buildings were repainted th is spring. Luscher on Sandy road, is by far the finest stru ctu re put up in Fair- view during the year. T here was soon again urgent dem and for more room and in 1912 the building was extended w estw ard 57 feet and northw ard to F irst street, m aking a total length of 112 feet. The bank now finds its rooms too sm all and is thinking seriously of enlarging. The bank has Increased its cap ital stock th ree tim es and now has paid capital and su rp lu s and undivided profits am ounting to more than $60,000.00.
