A farmer can figure his costs almost to the last cent, but he is never certain of his profits until Ins crops are harvested and sold. There are large elements of risk in any one crop he can grow. But if he grows two crops instead of one, his risks are cut down immediately. There may be good profit in potatoes in a year when iruit yields the farmer a poor return Or if the profits from both potatoes and fruit crops are slender, he may recoup from the sale of b eer, pork, poultry or dairy* products.
