In those days it was first a crop of potatoes, th en clover w ith a n u rsin g crop of g rain . A fter tw o seaso n s of hay tile ro ta tio n was rep e ate d w ith good crops every tim e. A n o th er con trib u tio n to th e fa ilu re Is probably tile g re a te r p rev alen ce of m esqult g rass th a t has secu red su ch a grip here. It ru in s th e clo v er an d tim o thy fields an d p erh ap s is in som e m easure resp o n sib le fo r th e poor potatoes. As a sam p le of how th e p o ta to yield lias been affected it may be m entioned th a t one crop of 1600 bushels on ten ac res—-a very sm all yield was cu t down to 300 bushels of m e rc h an ta b le p o tato es, an d the profit rem ain ed in th e o th e r 1300 bushels th a t w ere u n salab le. Such •onditlons a re p rev alen t all o ver th is section an d th e grow ers a re at th e ir w its’ end for a rem edy. It is fre q u en tly asserte d th a t th e B urb an k s have "ru n o u t” h ere ; but so have th e o th e r v arieties and th e re set tus to be but one rem ed y — and th a t rem edy is new seed.
