B loat is a form of indigestion due to th e excessive form ation and accumula tio n of various gases in th e paunch or rum en. The a tta c h is especially ap t to occur when cattle are suddenly changed from a day diet to green clover or al fa lfa . It is o ften seen during warm, w et w eather, or when heavy dew or n i n m oistens the foliage. The chief sym ptom of blo atin g i t a gudden distension in th e le ft flank, w hich swells up and appears as tig h t as a drum head when thum ped w ith the fin er B elief must be im m ediate if suffoca ion la to bo avoided, and consists in p roviding an a rtific ia l ou tlet for the gas by “ ta p p in g " the anim al.
