Senior’s Matter flu shot initiative -Continued from PAGE ONE Age Plus, a federal agency, offered gift certificates to Murray’s for those who received a shot. They also provided a sizable stipend for SMSM to host the event. “We will receive around $3000 to seed other projects we have on our list.” Stated Conklin. The collaboration with Morrow Co Public Health and others provided seniors with a one-stop shopping experience. Two local nurs- es, Diane Kilkenny and Robin Canaday, and a few volunteers limited the wait time. Sarah Rhea stream- lined the paperwork and Madison Rosenbaum, Hep- pner Chamber Administra- tor handed out free socks. Jodi Seagraves and Todd Seagraves, Head Chef and Sou Chef respectively, provided a hearty meal of baked BBQ chicken with baked beans and potato salad. An ice cream sundae bar topped off a scrumptious meal. Volunteer servers, who are local members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, dedi- cated their time to creating a welcoming environment for the seniors. They set tables with care, engaged in friendly conversations, and provided assistance as needed, ensuring the seniors felt valued and cher- ished during their mealtime. “This opportunity has not only improved the seniors’ dining experience but has also fostered a sense of uni- ty and togetherness within the community.” Said Jack- ie Alleman, SMSM board member. “This collabo- ration exemplifies the true spirit of our communities, where we unite to serve and uplift our seniors. It’s heartening to witness the positive impact this project is making on the lives of our cherished elders.” The success of South Morrow Co Senior’s Mat- ter serves as a testament to the power of community collaboration in creating a more enriched and fulfilling life for our seniors, remind- ing us all of the importance of giving back and fostering connections within our neighborhoods.
